Haiden039s hair raiser

01 GBP

The beginning of April my 13 year old son was diagnosed with nodular lymphocyte predominant Hodgkin's lymphoma after having a a lump removed from the side of his face. Haidens prognosis is very good but all the same he will have to endure a small course of chemo.
Haiden has thick Black shoulder length hair which he likes to hide behind. He won't even have a trim. When he was diagnosed my first thought before any other was "What if he looses his hair?"
For children of all ages and especially teenagers image is everything, it's the first impression you give to others. The thought of him loosing his hair was was very upsetting.
So, what can I do at this difficult time to show Haiden that hair isn't all that important? I know! I'll shave all 28inches of my think long hair off. I will donate my hair to the Little Princess Trust so that other children can benefit from my shave and have real hair wigs made for them when going through something that internally is so intense.
I then needed to raise funds as the wigs cost the charity between £350 and £500 to then purchase the finished wig to be gifted to a child.
I started my just giving page with an original target of £200. With the help of social media we hit £1000 by the end of the first week. With just over 1 week to go we are at £2620 on my page and we have received so many kind donations towards our raffle. The local community have been amazing and a lot of schools and nursery a have agreed to hold a messy hair day or non uniform day for a small donation on the day I do the shave.
The shave takes place on Friday 1st July at The Pride Of The Peaks pub in new mills from 5pm onwards. We have face painting, balloon modelling, a bouncy castle, and a fantastic raffle.
Haiden has his first course of chemo on Tuesday 28th June. Nothing more could encourage me to do the shave than my gorgeous strong boy. His "crack on" attitude is so admirable and inspiring.
And peoples generosity and kindness has completely blown me away.
I keep being told what a good thing I'm doing, but in all honesty, it's everyone else that's raising the money and donating, and I owe the raffle to my determined friends Jemma and Jodie that have spent all their spare time emailing company's, traipsing round the shops and calling people from all over to get some fantastic prizes. This has raised us hundreds of pounds so far.
Haiden will be ok!
He is strong, and has a really good attitude towards the whole thing. we hope you can join us and help us to make lots of money for this charity! Www.justgiving.com/fundraising/amie
